CASCINA LA BADIA

Farm

In the heart of the lands of Barbera

Cascina "La Badia" is a farm located in the municipality of Montegrosso d'Asti, in the heart of the lands of Barbera d'Asti, surrounded by hills formed in the Pliocene. The soil is characterized by the presence of marly layers with a high presence of limestone and layers of yellow sand.

Here, the farm owns some hectares destined, in part, to hazelnuts but above all to the vineyard, whose grapes, cultivated with care and harvested exclusively by hand and only when the polyphenolic maturation reaches its maximum, give a wine which is fully identified with the production area and which follows its well-known vigor: all stages of the vineyard processing are done manually and with strictly natural methods.

Belonging for more than a century to a historic family producing local wine, the winery (founded in 1888) was reborn thanks to the brothers Pierangelo and Alberto Ruggerone, passionate vignerons from the province of Pavia, who in 2013 decided to restructure the production while maintaining the spaces and the appropriate climatic and conservation characteristics of the place and at the same time alongside more modern structures: one of the most historic Barbera companies in the Montegrosso area today takes the name of "Cascina La Badia - Fratelli Ruggerone".
